In a time when the struggle for a separate Ealam State has been defeated, it is necessary to find out the real reasons why the effort failed. Comrade Seelan’s toil to unearth the truth armed with historic facts that are further sharpened by his own first hand experiences is a timely endeavor and a very useful one. The struggle ended a failure mainly because it was not upheld purely for the fulfillment of the need of the Tamil people. Instead, it was carried out to serve hidden agendas of the imperialists and it was conducted with the help of the imperialists. In essence it never was an honest struggle.

The historic first conference of the Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF) – a federation of revolutionary mass organisations working among different classes and sections of the society at the grass-roots level – went underway today on 22 April 2012 in the Sundarayya Vignana Bhavan in Hyderabad with the hoisting of the RDF flag by Goru Madhav Rao, the veteran fighter of the Srikakulam Armed peoples’ uprising and the founding president of All India Peoples’ Resistance Forum (AIPRF). The red flag was hoisted with slogans hailing the ongoing revolutionary movement and condemning the Indian state’s repressive class violence in the form of Operation Green Hunt and now Operation Haka and Operation Vijay. The martyr’s column was unveiled by Mallamma, the mother of the martyred revolutionary leader G. Shankar, also known as Sheshanna and Shamsher, state committee member of the North Telangana Special Zonal Committee (NTSZC) of the CPI(Maoist). Resistance songs were performed by members of Jharkhand Abhen, Praja Kala Mandali and Revolutionary Cultural Front.

Leader of the Frontline Socialist Party Kumar Gunaratnam who was allegedly abducted on April 7 and released on April 9 shared his thoughts about his future politics and past activities in an emailed interview with Daily Mirror yesterday. Excerpts of the interview are as follows.

The alleged abduction and the subsequent release of Premakumar Gunaratnam and Dimuthu Attygalle, two key leaders of the breakaway JVP Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) in Sri Lanka, reveal the importance of ‘international pressure’ in safeguarding human rights of people in any country, including the right to life, at least as a ‘necessary evil’ under trying conditions of suppression of dissent and threats of enforced ‘disappearances,’ ‘torture’ and ‘extra-judicial killings.’

It is believed that during the last six months or so, over 50 persons and mainly political activists and journalists have disappeared from the streets of Colomboand Jaffna in Sri Lanka, and two of them were Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganathan who belonged to the same political movement as Gunaratnam and Attygalle. The previous two disappeared in Jaffna on the Human Rights Day on 10 December 2011 and their whereabouts are still unknown.

Two activists of the Movement for People’s Struggle, Lalith and Kugan are being held at the 6th floor of the Police Welfare building, it is reliably learnt.

The new state of the art building is located opposite the Manning Market in Pettah and was built when retired DIG Combalavithana was heading the Police Welfare Division. Although the building was constructed utilizing millions of rupees to be used for police welfare work, it is now being used as a torture chamber for persons who are abducted on the Defence Secretary’s directives.

Freedom and democracy to the people of Sri Lanka has been wiped out from the fundamental rights of people of Sri Lanka.  People are living in fear and horror. People are scared to discuss and express their views even to their fellow citizens.  The LTTE’s method of terrifying people during the past three decades has now been adopted by the rulers of the country.

There is only one truthful principal in this world. It should be compiled from objective reality and it should be tested by objective reality. Other than this, no other principal is eligible to be considered as a viable principal by us. Stalin said that when a principal is not connected with practicality then it becomes void of an objective. An objective without an aim is a futile one; and it is a hoax and therefore, should be rejected. Those who are inclined on nurturing such pointless principals should be disdained instead of commended. Marxism and Leninism are good theories. They are scientific and are revolutionary. They are from objective reality and were test proven by same. Mao Tsetung stated in one of his treatises that those who study Marxism and Leninism assume it as a latent and dormant ideals and such persons become impediments to the proliferation of those ideals. Consequently, they harm themselves as well as others.

Ms. Dimuthu Attygalle, who was released by her abductors yesterday, charged that government security authorities were involved in the abduction.

Ms. Attygalle who heads the international wing of the newly formed Frontline Socialist Party said armed abductors tried to extract information from her on the political activities of the new party. Dimuthu (42) who also heads the party's women's wing, said she did not sense anything dangerous when she alighted from the bus to go home in Godagama on Saturday evening. Walking up to the house, she noticed a white van parked at the confluence of four roads, close to her house. Being aware of 'white van abductions', she got alarmed. She turned back and tried to flee. Yet, there were some men behind and she became helpless. "I moved ahead come what may. Two muscular men came out of the van and bundled me into it. They held my mouth in a tight grip so that I cannot scream for help," Dimuthu told the media less than an hour after being released by her abductors.

It is a historic achievement, establishing a political party in a chaotic period when Mahinda government has divided communities ethnically as well religiously while submerging itself in ambiguities of dictatorship.   

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna is at present shamelessly bootlicking the ruling elites in order to satisfy its self cravings while turning its back to the working people who helped establish the very party. JVP also impedes rightful struggles of the working class too.

A group who had the valour to untangle them from such hypocrisies has today established the Frontline Socialist Party.

In a time when the ethnic issue has become the central crisis, the past that failed to uphold self assessment only helped to make the gulf between communities to become wider and deeper.

We wish success to the new party and wish it gets the strength and vigour to mobilize itself as a party of the people.

• Let us initiate a revolutionary front.
• Let us initiate a struggle  to win the rights of the people!
• Let us fight against camps of tyranny and unite to defeat their despotic cravings.
• Let us demand that justice is served for every crime unleashed against the people of Sri Lanka in the past.

Independence – Masses are being made Slaves And Celebration for Rulers

Dedicating oneself for the people and working towards it has more gravity than sacrificing one’s own life for freedom. Comprehending this and knowing for whom the Independent day celebrations are for is vital.

There is no independence for people unless people rule themselves. Masses are divided and manipulated in the name of ethnicity, caste, religion, colour or gender, in order to set them to fight with each other. Oppressors and exploiters can then easily take the powers in their hands and the rulers claim this as independence.

Iran: We have been here before. The year before the assault on and near destruction of unarmed neighbouring Iraq, George W. Bush, of course declared the “Axis of Evil”, Iraq, Iran and North Korea.

But it was the man now hailed “peacemaker”, former President Jimmy Carter, who, in his State of the Union Address on the 23rd of January 1980, made the most chilling statement - until the current political psychopathy – regarding a possible nuclear strike on Iran.

Very simplisticly put, the then Soviet Union supported Afghanistan’s leftist government, and eventually invaded the country in their defence, against challenges by the traditionalist, conservative Muslim, majority and (US backed) Mujahideen.

Union of organizations against abductions and disappearance had organized an awareness program through the media of leaflets for 17th (today) in protest against the continuing abductions and disappearances.

They were stopped by the security forces at Puliyankulama this afternoon. The officers had told them that they could not be permitted to go to Jaffna and they could go to Mulative if necessary.

Tense situation erupted here between the organizers and the security forces officers and in the end they staged a huge protest there. Security forces continued to disrupt this protest against abductions and disappearances from this morning.

CIA infects South American leaders with cancer?

Over 18 months period four progressive leaders of Latin America and their fellow citizens were shocked by the diagnosis delivered by their physicians - cancer. Fernando Lugo, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, Hugo Chavez, and recently Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner were given this diagnosis. The Presidents of Paraguay, Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina suspiciously simultaneously turned out on the verge of survival.

Chavez immediately warned that the disease may be a "new weapon of the empire to eliminate unwanted leaders." Maybe, but oddly enough, the result was the opposite. All politicians not only did not stop their political life and moved away from responsibilities, but on the contrary, dramatically increased their rating and rallied around the supporters.

First, in August of 2010 60-year-old Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo was diagnosed with a tumor of lymphatic system. After six sessions of chemotherapy in Sao Paulo and Asuncion, doctors reported that the tumor was gone. He was elected in 2008 with a mandate for five years. He resigned his ecclesiastical rank and became the second leftist president in the history of the country.

On Thursday when they came back it was with bodies wrapped in carpets lashed to their sides: the victims of a Turkish air raid that killed up to 35 villagers from this remote region.

In a major embarrassment for Turkey's government, it was forced on Thursday to admit that the dead, originally described by the Turkish army as Kurdish separatist fighters from the banned PKK, were civilians, misidentified by Turkish drones and then bombed on Wednesday evening as they travelled close to the Iraqi border.

The wife of the missing Jaffna political activist Kugan Muruganandan has sought his release in view of Christmas.

The appeal by Muruganandan Chanda came at a media briefing today (Dec. 25) convened by relatives of Kuganand Lalith Kumar Weeraraju, who disappeared several days ago.

London demonstration joined the wave of demonstrations being held in Sri Lanka and in foreign countries to urge ruling party administration in Sri Lanka to release abducted and illegally detained two MPS activists, Lalith Kumara Veeraraj and Kugan Muruganathan, in Jaffna on 9 December while organizing a MPS media conference scheduled to be held on the following day.

Southwest China's Sichuan province will hike the minimum monthly wage by about 23.4 percent starting Jan. 1, 2012, to help attract laborers facing rapidly rising living costs, local authorities said Thursday. The minimum monthly wage will be raised to 1,050 yuan (166 U.S. dollars), 960 yuan, 880 yuan and 800 yuan in regions at different levels of development, the provincial human resources and social security office said in a statement. Sichuan, with a population of 89 million, is a major source of migrant workers for major cities around China, especially in the eastern coastal manufacturing hubs. In the southern economic powerhouse of Shenzhen, local authorities plan to raise the minimum monthly wage by 15 percent to 1,500 yuan in January to attract laborers. Severe labor shortages and rising living costs in Chinese cities prompted wage hikes both this year and last year. Twenty-one provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities had raised the minimum monthly wage by an average of 21.7 percent by October this year, according to Yin Chengji, spokesman for the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
